and Expertise
The activities and services of IfG GmbH relate to the complex investigation and prediction of rock pressure effects during establishment of underground openings and during their long-term usage, in particular in rock salt and saliferous rock formations with their specific, generally non-linear material behavior by geomechanical methods.

There are four components:
  • Rock behavior
  • Behavior of rock formation
  • Modelling of rock mechanical behavior
  • Dimensioning and expertise
Elements of the services
The fundamental elements of the services supplied by the IfG GmbH are
  • geotechnical pre-examinations for the exploration of the condition of the rock mass, for the determination of the rock properties, and for the derivation of strata models which are prerequisites for the performance assessment and suitability studies
  • rock mechanical feasibility and planning studies as well as design concepts for underground openings
  • computations for stability assessments during the phase of operation in underground mining, hard rock mining, cavern mining, and for adits, shafts, tunnels and rock slopes
  • evaluation and dimensioning of geotechnical barriers and sealing constructions (in adits and shafts)
  • stability, safety and risk analysis concerning potentially endangered zones
  • geotechnical evaluation of long-term safety of back-filled mines, underground deposits and abandoned cavities
  • rock mechanical evaluation of the long-term-integrity of geological barriers
  • evaluation of rock mechanical situations with regard to mining safety, damage in case of surface subsidence and environmental safety aspects (analysis of scenarios)
  • prediction of convergence behavior and conditions of rock loading concerning underground structures of mines and caverns
  • concepts for back-filling and plugging of mines, shafts and caverns which are planned to be abandoned,
  • forecasting of surface subsidence and seismicity
  • design of measurement programs and the performance of measurements to determine the state of stresses and strains in rock mass for control, monitoring and evidence preservation.
